Where Pennsylvania’s numbers come from

Unofficial counts as of Nov. 5, 2026, 9:20 a.m. ET, summed from district results published by a secondary compilation or a news organization’s tally, used where official pages could not be read. They are not certified results.

Notes on Pennsylvania

  • Vote counts are unofficial results from the Pennsylvania Department of State API (electionreturns.pa.gov), summing election-day, mail-in and provisional votes as reported by counties. Not certified.
  • Statewide reporting at fetch time: 8,931 of 9,065 election districts (98.52%), per the site's dashboard message ('IN PERSON BALLOT REPORTING ONLY'). This is a precinct count, not % of expected vote, so pctReporting is null for every seat. Mail and provisional ballots may still be added.
  • The state's election-testing endpoint returned IsTesting=true and the RSS feed title says '(Unofficial, Testing)'. The numbers are nonetheless live 2026 general-election counts: e.g. governor totals exceed 4.9M votes, and district totals agree closely with independent media tabulations (PA-16 identical). Flagging for transparency.
  • District totals from the API were cross-checked against the county-level XML election feed (ID 83): all 17 districts match exactly.
  • The state does not report write-in votes for these contests in this feed; no write-in entries are included.
  • PA-03: Dennis Mahoney ran on 'The Independent Party' (TIP) line, a minor party, coded 'O' (not 'I').
  • Candidate names are shown as Ballotpedia spells them; the state lists them in upper case (e.g. 'GLENN GT THOMPSON').
  • Verification pass (2026-11-05T14:10Z): every race call was re-checked against NBC News Decision Desk district results pages. All called seats are projected there for the same candidate, so callSource now names NBC News. Seats NBC has not projected stay uncalled.
  • Verification pass (2026-11-05T14:00Z): the PA DOS office API was re-fetched and all 34 candidate totals in all 17 districts match this file exactly. GetLatestElection confirms ElectionID 117 = '2026 General Election' (2026-11-03). The IsTesting flag accompanies the site's live 'unofficial results' banner, and the counts are real tabulations.
