Notes on Michigan

  • MICHIGAN VOTE DATA IS MOSTLY MISSING. The Michigan Secretary of State results site (mielections.us) timed out / refused connections from our collector and from a third-party fetcher, and michigan.gov returned Akamai 'Access Denied' (403). County Clarity ENR sites (e.g. Oakland County, results.enr.clarityelections.com/MI/Oakland/127284) answered with an AWS WAF bot challenge, and Wayne and Kent county sites returned 403. We did not attempt to circumvent these blocks.
  • Only Macomb County's unofficial summary PDF was reachable. It covers parts of MI-09 and MI-10, so both are 'partial' and contain only Macomb County votes — the margins shown for MI-09 and MI-10 are NOT district margins. MI-10's non-Macomb part is a small piece of eastern Oakland County; MI-09 also includes St. Clair, Lapeer, Sanilac, Huron, Tuscola and part of Oakland.
  • Macomb's PDF lists declared write-in candidates as 'TBD' for some offices; none are listed for the congressional races, so no write-in entries are included.
  • The other 11 districts are written with dataStatus 'missing' and votes null. Candidate names and parties for those seats come from Ballotpedia. Ballotpedia also prints vote counts, but they are cited to NYT/Decision Desk HQ results pages (licensed data we must not reuse) and are visibly stale/partial (e.g. MI-12 at 44,726 total votes), so they were NOT used.
  • Party codes: Working Class Party, U.S. Taxpayers Party and Natural Law Party candidates are coded 'O'; Libertarian 'L'; Green 'G'.
  • Verification pass (2026-11-05T14:10Z): every race call was re-checked against NBC News Decision Desk district results pages. All called seats are projected there for the same candidate, so callSource now names NBC News. Seats NBC has not projected stay uncalled.
  • Verification pass (2026-11-05T14:00Z): the Macomb unofficial summary PDF was re-fetched (byte-identical) and all 11 MI-09 and MI-10 candidate totals match this file exactly. mielections.us still times out and michigan.gov still returns 403 to this collector.
  • Recheck 2026-11-05: Wikipedia "2026 United States House of Representatives elections in Michigan" general-election boxes for all districts still have blank vote fields, so no secondary source with official counts was available. The 11 seats stay missing.
  • Seats MI-01–MI-08 and MI-11–MI-13: vote counts from CNN's results page (media tally) because the state's official results were unavailable when collected.
  • MI-09: county-only partial count replaced with CNN's full-district media tally (2026-11-05T15:18:28Z).
  • MI-10: county-only partial count replaced with CNN's full-district media tally (2026-11-05T15:18:28Z).
  • Refresh 2026-11-05T17:35:47Z: replaced with CNN's media tally because it had counted more votes than the previous source: MI-01 (403,405 -> 403,805).
