Notes on Maine
- NO VOTES RECORDED. Maine has no official election-night results feed: the Maine SOS results page (checked 2026-11-05 ~14:00Z) lists only 2026 primary and special-election results, and the Maine Law Library returns directory (lldc.mainelegislature.org/Open/Elections/Returns/2026/) has no 20261103 folder yet. Both seats are dataStatus 'missing' until the SOS posts first-round tabulations.
- Fallbacks examined and rejected: Bangor Daily News town results embed is powered by Decision Desk HQ (prohibited); FairVote's article cites AP numbers (prohibited); Wikipedia's 2026 Maine House page shows partial infobox totals (90% / 92% reporting 'as of 9:55 PM, November 4 EST') with no citation, so they do not meet the 'secondary citing official counts' bar; Ballotpedia could not be read and its election-night numbers come from licensed providers.
- When results arrive, use first-round (first-choice) totals per the ranked-choice rule. ME-02 is an open seat (Jared Golden withdrew); a declared write-in (Gregory Ward) is reported in media but is not listed here.
- Race calls: NBC News Maine House results page shows ME-01 won by Chellie Pingree (D) and ME-02 uncalled (read 2026-11-05). Paul LePage declared victory on 2026-11-04 and Matt Dunlap had not conceded (Maine Morning Star, WABI, 2026-11-04); the race had not been called by a major outlet.
- Independent verification 2026-11-05 ~14:25Z: Maine SOS results page and Law Library returns folder re-checked: still no 20261103 results (only 20260224 and 20260609). Candidates confirmed against the SOS 2026 General Candidate List: CG1 Pingree (D), Russell (R); CG2 Dunlap (D), LePage (R); no other ballot candidates. NBC still shows ME-02 with no projected winner (91.9% in) and ME-01 Pingree "Projected winner"; Maine press (Press Herald, Maine Morning Star, WGME, 2026-11-04) report ME-02 uncalled, with a possible ranked-choice tabulation if neither candidate clears 50% after write-ins (declared write-in Gregory Ward).
- Re-check 2026-11-05 (speed pass): Law Library returns folder still only 20260224/20260609; Wikipedia general-election section still has no cited vote totals (infobox 246,117 / 125,671 is uncited partial). Both seats left missing; no estimates.
- Seats ME-01–ME-02: vote counts from NBC News's results page (media tally) because the state's official results were unavailable when collected. NBC shows ME-01 Pingree projected winner (90.4% in) and ME-02 uncalled (93.1% in); ME-02 includes NBC's listed write-in Gregory Ward (161).
- Refresh 2026-11-05T17:35:47Z: replaced with CNN's media tally because it had counted more votes than the previous source: ME-02 (320,596 -> 322,933).
