Notes on Alaska

  • SECONDARY SOURCE. The Alaska Division of Elections site (www.elections.alaska.gov, including /results/ and /wp-content/ result PDFs) returned an AWS WAF 'Human Verification' challenge (HTTP 405) to every automated request on 2026-11-05, so official numbers could not be retrieved; the challenge was not bypassed.
  • Votes are first-round (first-choice) ranked-choice totals as shown by Ballotpedia, which cites the New York Times results page for these numbers. Begich's 105,647 is corroborated by the Anchorage Daily News (49.5%, 'with almost all precincts reporting', per adn.com 2026-11-03 article). Wikipedia's state page showed an earlier, smaller count (Begich 105,353; Hill 85,838; Hafner 15,501; McDermott 5,763; total 212,455) without a citation and was not used.
  • Write-in votes were not available from the source (Ballotpedia lists write-in candidate Lady Donna Dutchess with 0); no write-in line is included.
  • Not called: Begich is below 50% of first-choice votes, so the race goes to ranked-choice tabulation (scheduled Nov. 18; certification Nov. 25). This is RCV tabulation, not a runoff election, so status is 'uncalled'. Ballotpedia: 'The outcome of this election has not been called yet.'
  • Bill Hill (nonpartisan/independent) recorded as I. pctReporting null (news reports cite ~98% of precincts, not percent of expected vote).
  • Replace with official Division of Elections figures when the site is reachable (ElectionSummaryReportRPT.pdf).
  • Verification 2026-11-05: the Division of Elections site still serves a CAPTCHA ('Let's confirm you are human') to browsers and a WAF 405 to scripts; it was not bypassed. Provenance check: the Wayback Machine copy of the official ElectionSummaryReportRPT.pdf (11/3/2026 8:28:49 PM, 45 of 400 precincts) shows Begich 28,677 / Hill 30,786 / Hafner 4,278 / McDermott 1,227 / Write-in 86 (Total 65,054), identical to the earliest AP-sourced snapshot logged on poliwave.com, which supports that the AP/NYT figures used here mirror the official report. But the figures used here still reach this file through AP data (NYT, then Ballotpedia), which the brief prohibits, and the official report includes a Write-in line (86 at 8:28 PM) that is missing here. Poliwave also logs a later civicAPI snapshot (Nov 4, 3:28 PM AKST: Begich 105,946; Hill 86,208; Hafner 15,572; McDermott 5,796). That snapshot could not be checked against the official site and was not used. Replace these numbers with the official PDF when a person can open it in a browser.
